Christmas Break - 2007-01-01 08:27
Christmas break has come and gone. Tomorrow I get to go back to school with the kiddos. I’ve had a great time hanging out with family (especially my wife and kid), even though Kylen has been difficult at times. He woke up around 5:00 this morning talking to himself in his gurgling way and I went and got him after about 20 minutes. While I was changing his diaper he looked up at me and gave me the biggest grin. Are you supposed to smile back in the middle of the night when you want him to go back to sleep or not? Not that it matters, since I can’t not smile at him when he gives me his huge toothless grin. I wrapped him up and took him out in the living room. We laid on the couch. The smell of last night’s fire still hung in the air. The warmth of his little body on my chest was comforting. The hum of the ceiling fan and the patter of the rain put me to sleep, the pacifier him. I truly enjoyed that time with Kylen, and I believe it was the first time I felt that way with him. I’m sure there will be more times to come, but when you do get to enjoy one of those times, you want to be sure not to forget it.
