DVD Review: Nothing Special - 2006-07-17 11:00
Four words: Advertising suckered me. Pierce Brosnan with gun in hand. Fiery background. The silhouette of a woman reminiscent of the Bond dynasty. Everything makes The Matador look like an action packed movie. Even the back of the case talked of the life of a hitman with one final hit with the help of a stranger. I was duped! The movie was awful. The only link Brosnan had with his previous Bond character was the fact that he was a womanizer (and quite a crude one at that). There were no crazy car chases or explosions. No big shoot outs. I don’t care if a movie doesn’t have those things, but when you are expecting action/adventure and get this… bleh. Don’t watch it.

On the other hand, The Family Stone, and Rumor Has It were both fine Romantic Comedies. The Family Stone takes place during the Christmas holiday (and if I would have known that, I probably wouldn’t have rented it in July). It’s mainly a story of an icy woman (Sarah Jessica Parker) meeting her boyfriend’s easy going family. At times, the situations can be a bit uncomfortable (but not Focker uncomfortable). The movie ends well and makes it worth watching with a girl. Rumor Has It was a bit more interesting to me as it is the story based off of The Graduate. Supposedly, The Graduate is based off of a true story, and this movie is about that family. But Sarah Huttinger (Jennifer Aniston) doesn’t realize that until later in the movie. Same recommendation as above; good to see with a girl.
i never saw the matador (and now i definitely won’t).
the wife and i saw the family stone in the theaters, and although it wasn’t what we expected, we really enjoyed it.
the wife and i rented rumor has it… it was forced. fine for a romantic comedy… but it felt like some wrtier got a “great idea” to make the graduate based on a true story but then had to force everything and quite honestly i found it to be confusing in parts.
Glad you won’t, it isn’t worth it….
Yeah, Rumor Has It was an interesting premise, but I can definitely see where it would be confusing in parts. I found the grandmother’s (“Don’t call me that!”) relationship with Sarah (Aniston) quite interesting and hilarious at times. You know what else is interesting and hilarious at times? Brian Regan.
I’m a little disappointed in you. Suckered in by the propaganda. I mean, look at the mustache. That really ought to have been enough to deter you. That’s all I’m saying.
And that’s only three words.
Yeah, I know… Don’t anyone look at me, I’m a moron. (Again, if you don’t know that reference, you need to go to Brian Regan’s website and order some tickets right now. You won’t be sorry. My brother and I are taking 28 people to his next shindig in Richmond, VA! Can 30 people be wrong Oh and also, you can put your email address in the email field. It only goes to me (not displayed anywhere)...
