Genesis 3 & 4; Matthew 3:16 - 2007-01-02 21:35

As I was reading today’s scripture reading (remember I am writing this for me, not necessarily you – although if you get something out of it, bully for us both) I remembered what my brother’s pastor said during the Christmas season while talking about this specific verse:

Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.

This is the first mention of the coming of Christ. There will be a savior to fight against Satan and his followers. He was already known this far back (and even before the world was conceived).

In Genesis 3:21, God sacrificed the first animals to make coverings for Adam and Eve. This isn’t the last time that blood would be shed for man.

Genesis 4

I’m not sure if anyone else reading Genesis 4 felt that the story about Lamech was kind of random. Why is it so important that he announced to his wives that he killed a man for attacking him, and that if Cain would be avenged sevenfold by God, then Lamech would be avenged 77 times? Is he bragging? Is God going to protect him? Is he trusting in his own flesh to protect himself? Random.

Matthew 3:16

Can you imagine that Herod killed all of the male children under the age of two in order to get rid of the One who would over throw his kingdom? That is outrageous. A lot of times I skim over that fact while reading this story. I guess it is a bit different when you have a male child under the age of two. I just can’t believe that the police would come to my house, take Kylen outside, and kill him… Unbelievable.
